Surpass, the assessment platform, now gives you more opportunities to automate your business critical systems with a range of new integration methods. With more options, you can become more efficient.
Since the first version of Surpass, integration has been a key factor in its development. By working with early adopters of the system, it was clear that any successful assessment platform would have to work in harmony with other applications and services.
With this in mind, we have created a series of data connections that allow Surpass to talk automatically with other key back office systems used by our customers. By automating the movement of large amounts of data, customers can scale up their business and reduce handling errors. As Surpass has grown, it has become more integral to our customers’ assessment processes, and as a result, our customers have been looking for even more ways to connect systems.

[one-half-first] By working together with customers to analyse their current systems and business needs, we realised that there are now many different pieces of software in use for a specific task, compared to when Surpass was first launched. However, many of them share common technical processes and integration channels.

“In the latest release of Surpass, there are 49 new integration connections possible, bringing the total to more than 6 times that of previous versions.” – Dave Dixon, Senior Solutions Architect, BTL

Already, this improved development procedure has increased the number of possible automated commands, from 9 to a huge 58, more than 6X increase in the level of functionality. This number will only continue to grow as we dedicate ourselves to ensuring the automatic functionality of Surpass stays in line with customer requirements.

So how does your organisation benefit from system integration?

[one-half-first] There are a few good reasons you might want to ensure different software can talk to each other, but the main consideration is business agility.
For example, you might use creatiogreen for managing centres, qualification registrations and certification and then Surpass for question items, tests, and test delivery. They both share similar data and perform their own specific business tasks.
Therefore it makes sense to exchange data securely across each platform as you require. By making one the master data source, you remove the need for duplicate data, reducing errors and improving business agility. Integration doesn’t stop with candidate and qualification data, it can include assessment specific delivery and marking. With Surpass, customers have the option to use our on-screen human marking solution SecureMarker, or should they already be using it, RM Assessor.

How does this latest development work with Surpass?

Commonly known as an API (Application Programming Interface) by IT professionals, Surpass uses the latest REST based integration methods to massively increase its compatibility with other leading software platforms using similar technologies. We also have experience in connecting Surpass to older methods to support legacy systems and can offer guidance on integration strategy.
Making use of the latest REST principles means that Surpass has also improved its already remarkable scalability.

[one-half-first] This is because with REST instructions can be sent individually rather than as one set of commands, so there is less pressure on your examination servers, making processes more efficient, and allowing for larger amounts of data to be transferred securely at one time.
The benefits of moving to REST based integration is much like how the USB simplified how we connect devices to our computers – one easy connection across a range of devices that the end user can simply plug in and go.
