Innovative Questions Types
In some instances, standard question types are not suitable for assessing a particular skill or piece of knowledge, and advanced or innovative item types are required. These question types are easily accommodated using ContentProducer's question extensions, allowing for the development of these advanced question types.
These non-traditional question types might typically require a candidate to carry out an action in a simulated environment, such as cutting a section from a portion of butter or highlight some text from a passage, manipulate objects or carry out some other process that requires more than a simple correct or incorrect answer.
BTL have identified in excess of 120 question types that can be produced within ContentProducer using standard and Innovative item types, and continue to add to the library of templated question extensions that are available to our customers.
As acceptance of onscreen assessment continues to grow, the requirement to develop assessments that are truly fit for purpose increases, and therefore the need for item types beyond the traditional becomes ever greater. ContentProducer, in addition to providing all of the standard question types, allows for the rapid development of question extensions. This enables, for example, randomly generated mathematical questions, simulated environments and replicated applications to be rapidly authored from templates, by authors with some limited knowledge, but without the requirement to become expert in developing in applications like Flash or Java. BTL provides, as part of ContentProducer, a library of these extensions, but also offers consultancy and training in their development.
This ability to seamlessly integrate both standard and custom types within a single test paper is a powerful feature of ContentProducer and ensures that the widest possible range of skills and knowledge can be assessed.
