Dr Bob Gomersall – Chairman
Bob Gomersall founded BTL in 1985 and is currently Chairman. He was educated at the universities of Durham and Bristol and worked as a theoretical physicist at the Max Planck Institute, Stuttgart. He has taught physics at Manchester Grammar School and Bradford Grammar School (where he was Head of Physics).
He is also Chairman and founder of the Virtual College Group plc and the Advanced Digital Institute, and is a director of HF Holidays. Bob has a particular interest in innovation, and formerly chaired the Leeds City Region Business Innovation and Growth Panel. He is married with four grown up children, all engineers.
Keith Myers – Managing Director
Keith joined BTL in 2000, bringing operational expertise gained during five years at Harry Ramsden’s plc as Deputy Finance and Systems Director. Prior to this, Keith has held senior Financial and Operational roles in various organisations including an offshore insurance company based in Bermuda and Kunick Plc.
Upon joining BTL, Keith quickly moved from Head of Operations and Finance to become Managing Director. He has overseen the growth of the company from 20, to over 100 personnel, and has managed BTL’s strategic development with Surpass
Sonya Whitworth – Operations Director
Sonya heads BTL’s operations and she and her teams are involved in the whole lifecycle of a service, from the initiation of a project, through to the delivery and support of the continuous service. She previously worked for Accenture, the international Project Management Consultancy Company, before joining BTL in 2003.
Sonya is certified in ITIL and achieved the PRINCE 2 practitioner qualification. Sonya recognises the importance of process across the organisation to enable the continued successful operation of consistent and robust assessment delivery, and she instigated and championed the internal project established to achieve ISO:9001 accreditation. She is now sponsoring the activities required to achieve accreditation of ISO:27001.
Andy McAnulla – Service Design Director
Andy has worked in the assessment industry building e-assessment software platforms for over 15 years. Andy’s background is in software architecture and he is also disciplined and qualified as a Scrum Master for Agile product development, ITIL for service management and Prince 2 for project management. In 2005 he was awarded “Young IT Practitioner of the Year” by the Chartered Institute of IT (BCS) for his software development and technical management skills.
Andy was a board member of the e-Assessment Association for 3 years and is currently the Director of Service Design at BTL Group Ltd., where he is responsible for defining and driving the overall product strategy for the Surpass Platform, which is used by organisations to deliver their summative exams, on-screen or on paper.
Jessica Pape – Business Development Director
Before joining BTL in 2004, Jess worked in the events sector as an account manager, looking after global firms such as HSBC and Pfizer. Quickly adapting her skills to the particular needs of the assessment industry, she spent her formative years working closely with the Surpass Community. Jess initially took on account and project management roles, where she supported the successful migration from traditional paper-based testing to on-screen assessments for several prestigious awarding bodies, before progressing into a management role within the Business Development team. She has also been fortunate to experience national computer trialling through work with the Department for Education in the UK.
Now, sitting on the board as Business Development Director, Jess guides an experienced team with a strong focus on meeting customer requirements and managing the partnership-like relationships with clients, for which BTL is well known.
